On-Water ASA Bareboat Chartering and Cruising
Catamaran Course
Combined ASA Bareboat Chartering (104) and Cruising
Catamaran (114) Courses
Prerequisite: Basic Sailing (101) and
Basic Coastal Cruising (103) or Learn-to-Sail Package (200)
This five-day, four-night, live-aboard course
is a must for any skipper or couple who wants to bareboat
charter a catamaran in the Caribbean or other exotic destinations.
The course, which is taught onboard the beautiful
43' foot cruising catamaran, Destiny's Desire, emphasizes
the similarities and differences between sailing monohull
and multihull sailboats, including boat systems and maintenance
procedures. In addition, students will learn about trip planning,
living afloat, understanding weather, mooring techniques,
and advanced seamanship skills.
By the end of this course, graduates will be
able to safely act as skipper or crew aboard a 30' to 50'
cruising catamaran during daylight hours in coastal waters.
Upon passing the written and on-water tests, participants
will be awarded both the Bareboat Chartering (104) and Cruising
Catamaran (114) Certificates from the American Sailing Association
(ASA).
For those experienced skippers or couples who
do not meet the prerequisite requirements for ASA certification,
a Mariners School certificate of completion may be awarded.
